Horse Betting Contest- what do U think???

I was at another site and they ran a one day one track capping contest .
It was thoroughbreds so I did not enter.
There were 13 races.

The 2nd & 3rd place finishers picked the #7 horse for EVERY race!

Although it was FAIR, I stated that it did NO justice to the board memebers. These contests give guys money, but they also help to show WHO has the skills. So if I did not see this, I COULD think that the 2nd place finisher had some good picking skills and I COULD follow his lead ! (in for a surprise there)
Just wanted to know what you thought. I said that I was disappointed to see so little effort put into it despite the eventual outcome.

The local OTB had a handicapping contest one weekend last year. The winner was the most winning picks and you you had to play all ten races.

I spent two days with the form and felt real good to have 4 winners. My sister-in-law used a random number generator for her pick in each race. Took about three minutes. Six out of ten and one paid over $50.

Once again, I am nottalking about WINNING - I am talking about honest capping. I just think that a contest like that should "showcase" some talents. When someone wins a contest, I like to be able to say "Good job capping" - random number generators take a bit away

Every race that is run is a handicapping contest. If you make a bet, you have entered the contest.

You can slice it up any way you want or make "side" examples like yours but it still doesn't make sense to me. I just thought it made a bit of a mockery out of the whole thing lol Kind of Like me entering the football contest and only picking teams whose namesstart with "alternating letters of the alphabet.....
